Anogia is one of the most famous villages in Crete and is located in Rethymno. It stands at an altitude of 750 metres on the mountain of Psiloritis which is the highest mountain of Crete. Because of its secluded location it is considered one of the most traditional villages in Crete that has retained its strong authentic character, local customs and costumes and the strong Cretan dialect.
When visiting Anogia you should definitely stay for lunch. The locals prepare the most traditional recipes with products that they collect themselves. Of course you will have to taste raki, the most typical Cretan drink that is present in every meal and occasion.
