Plakias

Plakias is a small village 30 km south of Rethymnon and is one of the most popular places to visit in Rethymnon. It is located between two gorges, Selia and Kourtaliotiko and offers a gorgeous beach at the end of a crescent bay where you can relax and enjoy the sun. Although it is a very busy destination there are many small and quiet hotels where someone can spend the night.

Kournas Lake

Kournas lake is located at the boundaries of Chania and Rethymnon and is a very popular destination since every year it attracts thousands of visitors. It is the only lake in Crete that has fresh water and in the antiquity it was known as Korisia. You can either visit it for an afternoon walk or even spend the day there.

Anogia

Anogia is one of the most famous villages in Crete and is located in Rethymno. It stands at an altitude of 750 metres on the mountain of Psiloritis which is the highest mountain of Crete.

Argiroupolis

Argiroupolis is a traditional and picturesque village just 21 km west of Rethymnon. It is built between two rivers, “Mousselas” and “Petres” and on the site of ancient Lappa. The place is truly magical since it is full of trees, wild plants and exotic waterfalls.

Bali

Bali is located in a large gulf between Heraklion (43 km west of Heraklion) and Rethymno (30 km east of Rethymno). Bali has four sandy beaches that are formed in sandy coves and is ideal for families since it is very organized area with all the necessary amenities.

Preveli

Preveli is located 35 km south of Rethymno and just 10km east of Plakias. The famous beach of Preveli with the palm-groves is located at the exit of the Kourtaliotikos Gorge where the Great River is flowing.

Triopetra

The name of Triopetra means “Three Rocks” and comes from the three stones that emerge through the sea in this wonderful beach. It is located 52 km south of Rethymno kai 13k southeast of the village Akoumia.
