Elos is a traditional village located 60 km southwest of Chania on the way to the Monastery of Chrissoskalitissa and to the sandy beach of Elafonissi. In the village visitors can find the remains of a large old mill and the Byzantine church of Agios Ioannis.
Elos is mostly famous for the Chestnut festival that occurs every year in late October. Due to the fact that the village is surrounded by chestnut trees, during the period of harvesting the locals organize a special event with a lot of music, dancing and of course eating and drinking.
